about

This electrifying song pays homage to the rich history and vibrant culture of the UK dance music scene. The inspiration for the song is deeply rooted in Ricky Chopra’s extensive travels to far-off lands. During these journeys, Ricky was captivated by the diverse musical backgrounds of people worldwide. Exploring how music influenced and shaped people's lives and ultimately defined their identities became a fascination. Drawing from personal experiences, Ricky realised that his shared musical DNA was unique to the UK. It is this distinctive musical heritage that Ricky sought to capture and celebrate. It's more than just a song; it's a heartfelt tribute to UK Music Scene.
Spend enough time with Ricky Chopra, and you will hear him say “I was there!” To be honest, he really was. Ricky started his DJ career in a time before computers, MP3s, CDJs, and even before house music broke on these shores. In fact, he started buying music in the early 80s and started to DJ professionally in 1987.
Acid House had arrived in the UK and Ricky soon started to play at more and more raves in-and-around London, playing alongside Nicky Holloway, Jumping Jack Frost and Danny Rampling. He soon became a regular booking at clubs like the Milk Bar, Busby’s, The Astoria and The Buzz Club. (All flats today for the super rich). Under the pseudonym DJ Chops, Ricky started producing tunes. In 1992, he released a genre-defining track for Sony Music’s Faze Two label, it was a reggae-infused remix of Desmond Dekker ‘Israelites’ which reached No. 36 in the UK national charts and No.1 in Japan.
Ricky spent ten comfortable years in Sheffield DJing for Gatecrasher. Gatecrasher burned down in 2007 and Ricky started a night with his celebrity girlfriend called ‘Hang The DJ’. HTDJ was a place where they could explore their freaky experimental side; HTDJ nights became legendary for their insane visuals, burlesque performances and nuts mash-up sets. Still a denizen of the London free party and underground warehouse rave scene Ricky releases as Disco Freaks as well as under his own name.
There is also a lo-fi techno remix courtesy of BBC Radio 1 Introducing favourite B3CKS who as ever brings a magic touch to the simplest of idea to make a stunning alternative for those heavier sets.
